Mists of Pandaria: The path to getting geared at 90 (for the casual player)

General note of newness: from now on, bloggy posts will be made on warcraft.shadowbreaker.com and syndicated to our Facebook page.  This is because Facebook notes are impossible to search through, for easy access to older posts.  Everything that is posted on the blog will be posted to Facebook but not every status update that is made on Facebook will be posted on the blog.  So continue to follow us on facebook and rest assured you’ll be getting all our updates 🙂

Is my gear right?

Enchants. Gemming. Upgrades. Profession perks. There’s a lot that goes into curating your gear and although you’re not interested in getting the absolute best-in-slot items, you still want some epic gear you feel good about, and make it seem like you know what you’re doing to ppl who are inspecting you!  Fortunately, there are a ton of resources out there that can help you on your way to get appropriate gear and hopefully, by the end of this article, you’ll know where to spend all your Valor/Justice Points that you’ve been saving up!

Noxxic

I really like Noxxic for their brevity and straightforward UI.  Go here to see what kind of gems and enchants you should be using, as well as what Profession Perks you should apply to your gear.  I also use it as a reference point to make sure I’m using my rotations and cooldowns efficiently, as well as to make sure I’m prioritizing my stats correctly, whenever I have a chance to pick out any gear.  You should compare what’s on here to the next site —

Icy VeinsIcy-veins.  This site contains thorough information and really delves into details.  If you’re not satisfied with the cookie-cutter stat priorities of Noxxic, then this site is for you, as it gives you several different options with the reasons as to why those options are viable.  As for gear, you’ll need to do some of the legwork when it comes to figuring out exactly what gear you need to pick out but all the possible high-level gear for your class is laid out in an easy-to-read table format, sorted by ilvl.  So if you wanted upgrade your shoulder slot, you can easily see your options, and what it takes to get that piece (like, is it craftable? how many JP does it take? what rep do you need? etc.).

And finally, MaxDPS.comMaxDPS is an interesting approach to figuring out how/where to get your next piece of armor or weapon.  It lets you pick and choose how you’re going to get a piece and it gives you all the available items you can get through that method.  So if I know I’m probably only going to run LFR and Heroics (and rack up JP/Valor), it tells me all the best items I could get using those methods.  Very handy.

There are lots of sites that specialize in just their class, too many to list here but feel free to post any special resources for gearing tips.  This is just a general rundown for the casual gearhead like myself, so make the most of it and remember to have fun!
